Location

The Shepherds Hut Location

Situated between Penzance and Lands End in beautiful, ancient, West Penwith, The Shepherds Hut is the ideal base for exploring all the sights of West Cornwall.

Crean is in a quiet, wooded valley close to all the attractions of West Cornwall. Porthcurno, The Minack Theatre, Sennen Cove, Land End are all within 2-3 miles of Crean Mill. It is a very spiritual area with lots of artists and poets living in the vicinity. The beautiful South West Coast Path and amazing beaches are all within walking distance of the Hut such as Porthcurno, Penbeth Cove, Nanjizel and Pedn Vounder – to name a few!

This is a great base for walking and exploring the vicinity. The village of St Buryan is just over one mile away where there is a shop and pub. A Farm shop selling local meat is up the road for when you want to get your BBQ provisions in!

Treen is 2 miles the other way where you will find a lovely Olde Worlde Cornish Pub and access to the cliff path. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the Coast Path from the Hut – bring walking boots in case its muddy!

Newlyn, Mousehole and Penzance are approx. 6 miles from the Hut.

Directions

From Penzance follow the A30 towards Lands End. After passing through Drift take the B3283 left hand turn, signposted St Buryan & The Minack Theatre. Continue on the B3283 passing through St Buryan then after approx 1 mile turn right following the signpost for Crean. Follow the lane for approx half a mile and you will then see a drive on the right – there is a rock with a sign saying ‘CREAN MILL’ – please come down the drive VERY slowly and when you get to the bridge over the stream please keep wide as the end of the granite bridge can be unforgiving on your car door!  Please pull up in front of the Mill and we will come and greet you and show you to the Hut. Please note arrival is between 3pm-6pm if possible – we understand traffic can be a nuisance so please let me know on the day your eta.

Getting around

We are quite rural but within walking distance of coast path and pub which is about 30 minutes walk.  We have plenty of guests who stay without a car and love it. The open top bus does stop a 5 minute walk away from us in high season which takes you all around the coast to Penzance and as far as St Ives. There is a good value local taxi firm who are very good and do the Minack run frequently from our house for guests and also from the pubs! The nearest train station is in Penzance 8 miles away.
